Building A Better Community

The City of Palm Desert will repave, beautify, and improve the Presidents’ Plaza East and West Parking Lots. These aging, heavily used lots serve businesses and their patrons on El Paseo, Highway 111, and adjacent frontage roads between Larkspur Lane and Portola Avenue. The parking lots are undergoing several improvements.

Our project goal is to keep the community, patrons, employees and business owners informed throughout the life of the project.

Schedule Update As of November 18, 2021: During construction, the contractor encountered 14 septic tanks and cesspools not previously known. In addition, the contractor has encountered various existing private utilities in conflict with the planned construction, which have to be adjusted. These unknown conflicts have contributed to delays in the construction schedule.

In addition, the team has coordinated with the Coachella Valley Water District (CVWD) and Southern California Edison (SCE) to install major upgrades to the drinking water and underground electrical systems. SCE will complete their work early December 2021. CVWD began their work November 16 in the east but has encountered supply chain issues, which has caused a delay completion of their work. At this time, CVWD is not able to provide a schedule for completion.

Due to the supply chain issues, the project team is working on paving options for the east parking in late December followed by the west parking lot. The project is now expected to be complete February 2022, click here.
